Bun In the Royal Oven

No, Kate and William are not preggo. But Beyonce and Jay-Z are.

Beyonce always said she wanted to have children by 30, and in her 29th year of life a seed has been planted in her belly. I'm proud of her because she doesn't have an overly public relationship with Jay, and the two seen to be happy. Now I just hope that the baby doesn't get a stupid name, always whichever name Beyonce picks is destined to be popular in the future.

Aaliyah's Best Songs

So it's no secret that I am a big fan of Aaliyah. Today marks the ten year anniversary of her dead, so I think now is a good to for me to remember my favorite songs by her.

Aaliyah wasn't afraid to talk about sex and other taboo topics, which is one reason she was different from other singers of her time. Now, ten years after her death she is still remembered.

Age A'int Nothing But a Number- This is Aaliyah's first big hit. Although she never admitted it, the song was most likely about R.Kelly.

If Your Girl Only Knew- This is another great song, and it's about a homewrecker. What more could you want? At least Aaliyah isn't the problem.

One In a Million- This is Aaliyah's favorite song, and while it's not my favorite song by her it is a good jam.

Are You That Somebody?- This song is from the Dr. Dolittle soundtrack, but it's one of her classics. It's referenced in Young Money's Bedrock and samples Prince.

Try Again- This was Aaliyah's first #1 song, and it has a great message. Try, try again.

Rock the Boat- While filming the video for this song, Aaliyah's plane crashed and took her life. It's a beautiful video and I play it a lot.

More Than A Woman- Another great one with a sick video. Never gets old.

I Miss You- The song has a star-studded group of people paying their respects. If you're ever missing anyone, here's a good song for you.

London, Paris, Maybe Trace Cyrus' Dick

I had to post about this.

So here's little known fact #1. The lead singer of Metro Station is Trace Cyrus, Miley's old brother.
Here's little known fact #2. Brenda Song.

Brenda is most famous for playing London Tipton on the Disney Channel show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Now, Brenda has been knocked up by Miley's brother. When I look at the two, all I can see is nurturing parents.

I feel bad for this kid for a few reasons. Firstly, his name will suck. Secondly, he'll be ugly. Thirdly, his dad has more tats than Lil Wayne. Fourthly, his aunt is Miley. This is just one big mess waiting to happen...

Kid Tested, Parent Disapproved

Diggy Simmons is the spawn of Run DMC frontman Rev Run. Diggy is now making a name for himself in the rap biz, and his material is far different than his dad's.

I do respect Dig in a sense. He didn't want his parent's help while getting a deal. Granted, they did buy him his whole studio and put him on a reality show. But his material itself is pretty good. He's not revolutionary, but his sound is much different than his dad's.

If he keeps it up, I really think he has a chance of making a name for himself. He'll never be able to leave his dad's shadow, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the game.

Classic: You Can Do It

Remember the days when Ice Cube was a gangsta rapper and every other word was a curse? It's been about a decade since we've seen that Ice Cube, but there are still some good songs from the former NWA rapper. I just randomly decided to Google this song a couple of days ago and I've been bumping it since.

Now you can find Cube in children's comedies and producing sitcoms. I'm surprised that he's done so well with his acting career, but if he can pull it off then more power to him!

A Real Idol

Flashback to 2004. Fantasia was crowned America's Idol. Now flash forward to 2011. Tasia's a mess and the real winner of the season 3 of American Idol turned out to be Jennifer Hudson.

The first couple of years after the season ended Hudson laid low. Then, she landed a leading role in the movie Dreamgirls and released her first album. She went on to win Grammys for the album and become achieve more mainstream success than Fantasia ever had. Hudson has recovered from some major tragedies, gotten married, and given birth. Look back to the 2004 season of American Idol it seemed like that title meant the world. Seven years later the title means nothing and Jennifer Hudson is the relevant one.

Now she's back to claim her throne again with a new song with DJ David Guetta. It sounds a little like Rihanna's Only Girl, but I like Hudson's song better.

Fresh for Fall

I'm about to head back to school, and fall's right around the corner. With a new season comes new music, and here are some songs I think are going to become big hits this fall!

Rihanna- Cheers
Last Friday Night is starting to fizzle, and everyone loves a good party song. Cheers is going to get the party going and liquids flowing. As if the feature of Rihanna isn't enough, the fact that is samples Avril's I'm With You is certain to get it stuck in your head.

Lil Wayne feat. Drake- She Will
Any song with Weezy or Drake on it is almost guarenteed to be a hit. Putting the two together will send a song north, and that's exactly where She Will is right now. It's #1 on iTunes and will likely make Tha Carter IV a #1 album.

Hip Hops Newest Trend

This week Jay and Kanye's Watch the Throne debuted at #1 on the Billboard album charts with sales north of 400k. Great numbers in this day and age. Not too long ago Eminem and Royce da 5'9' scored a #1 album with Bad Meets Evil.

The next collaboration album on the list...Weezy and Drake.

I must say, I'm excited for this one. The song She Will with the two of them is really growing on me, and I loved the song Miss Me from Drake's Thank Me Later.

I also see the logic behind it. Similar artists are pooling their fans. The majority of hip hop songs feature at least one artist anyway, so working with another artist is nothing new.

Hip hop isn't the only genre getting in on this. NKOTBSB anyone?

Will Ciara Survive?

Ciara's career started strong. Her first song Goodies went to #1 and her first album was a huge success. The second album didn't do quite as well, but it was still successful. Third album didn't do quite as well as the second and the fourth was pretty much a bomb.

It's kind of a shame. I've always liked her and found her talented. She recently switched labels because she felt like she wasn't being given the artistic opportunities she wanted. I hope this works out for her because she's going down a very slippery slope. I recently have been listening to the song Ride from her most recent album, and she's very talented. She's a crazy dancer that sings and dances live. Not to mention the sizzling video for Ride got banned from BET...but not Youtube!

I hope she has a career ahead of her. She used to be on top of her game and I still think she has some hits left in her. However, the public doesn't seem to want her best material. I was a fan on the song Work in 2009, and the video was crazy but it never took off. Hopefully she can switch things up and rise to the top!

Blowin Up: Don't Hold Your Breath

Nicole Scherzinger was the leading lady of The Pussycat Dolls and is not looking for a solo career. If you ask me, this is kind of pointless because she was always front and center in the Pussycat Dolls and did all the singing. Now she'll have to pay for background dancers.

Her first solo song was Right There featuring 50 Cent, it was OK, but 50 isn't the best rapper to collab with now. Her new song Don't Hold Your Breath is all Nicole and she killed it. It's a good song and has a strong possibility of success.

Situation Ordered to Take His Clothes Off

So here's the situation. Mike "The Situation" has been paid by clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch to stop wearing their clothes. The company claims that he is not a good representation of their image and fans of the company may be distressed after seeing him rocking A&F.

The Jersey Shore is on the the most popular shows on television, and may be the #1 cable show. The reasons listed do not seem like valid reasons to ask the Sitch to stop wearing the clothes. His homie Pauly D came to his defense claimed that A&F sell GTL shirts, so they are targeting the Shore's audience.

I do not think this is a good move for Abercrombie. BUT how often do you see logos from clothing stores on TV shows? Typically stations will blur these logos out of their show. So I find it surprising that this was not done on the Shore. But if A&F want to open their stores to the public they need to expect any and all people to shop there.

Queen of Billboards

It's official, Katy Perry has tied Michael Jackson's record for the most #1 singles on a single album.

Last Friday Night has pushed Party Rock Anthem out of the top spot. She is the first female artist to reach this achievement and only the second person ever.

However, times were different when Jackson reached got his 5 #1's. They were off of his album Bad, which as sold 8 million copies in the US alone. When MJ got his #1s the singles sold his album. For Perry, selling singles get her #1s. While they both achieved their success differently, they both reached the same goal which is very impressive.

Perry's next single is supposed to be Peacock. Will she be able to break MJ's record?

Future One Hit Wonder: Foster the People

Two years ago who cared about Foster the People? No one. Two years from now who will care about Foster the People? No one. Right now they have the #2 song on iTunes and a lot of people care about them. I don't know how their song Pumped Up Kicks obtained such success, but I'm glad that it did. The song is a fun listen, but I have no idea what they're singing about. Oh well!

Legends In the Making

Has anyone ever played the 10 year game? Well, I'm thinking about 10 years down the road right now and wondering which artists will obtain that legend status. Not all artists become legends, in fact very few do. True legends will sell out arenas in 10 years and their new material will be respected, not just the old stuff. In 10 years, they will still be able to see the top of the charts.

Hilary Duff's New Role: Mother

She can't get a record deal. She's not acting any more. So what is Hilary Duff up to? Preggo! I guess with all the free time she has this will keep her occupied. Plus she won't have to spend too much time parenting her child. All of the repeats of Lizzie McGuire will teach him/her any necessary lesson.

I would like to acknowledge that Hilary is doing very well for herself. Despite the fact that most people will always view her as a preteen, she's now in her mid-20s and married. She's actually in a stable environment to raise a child. I think this will be a good thing for a child, but it's proven to be terrible for her career.

Guetta Strikes Again

David Guetta has been releasing song after song after song recently. Some have been hits, and others have been misses. This song, featuring Australian artist Sia, is a hit in my eye. However, it's hard to say if it will be a hit on the charts. Right now Where Dem Girls At is his big hit on the charts, and Sia isn't very well known in the US. Either way, I really enjoy the song and I guess that's all the matters.

Lady Gaga's Loss of Origionality.

Lady Gaga recently released the cover to her single You and I. On the cover she poses as her new male alter ego "Jo Calderone." Now let's see...does any other recent artist have alter egos? Maybe a male alter ego? If you answered Nicki Minaj you're right! Nicki has many alter egos, but one of her most popular is Roman who is supposed to be a feisty gay boy.

Now, Nicki doesn't feel the need to dress as a boy on the Roman's Revenge cover, but she does say in a lot of interviews that he is a boy. In the video for Moment For Life she dresses up as a different alter ego of her's, Martha, an old mother with a British accent.

I really thought Gaga was better than this. It's only a matter of time before people realize that she's copying Nicki. For shame Gaga, for shame.

Blowin' Up: Skylar Grey

Skylar Grey's music falls somewhere between Avril Lavinge and Amy Lee of Evanescence. She's not that new either and appeared on Fort Minor's 2006 song Where'd You Go. She's the writer of Love the Way You Lie and sings the chorus on Diddy Dirty Money's Coming Home and Dr. Dre's I Need A Doctor.

Even though she's done a lot of big things, she's still unknown. Hopefully that changes when she releases her new album Invisible. Her current single, also named Invisible, is one of those vulnerable songs that makes you feel bad for any time you ever ignored someone. Nonetheless, it's a good song that will hopefully make some impact. Plus, it's free on iTunes this week so act fast!

Hip Hop's Royal Family

There has been a lot of debate of which song is the best off of Kanye and Jay's Watch the Throne. I personally think the song Lift Off deserves the trophy. The song represents everything the album hopes to be: history in the making. Jay-Z and Beyonce have become the royal family of Hip-Hop, and their adopted spawn Kanye is on this track too. I don't know what else you could as for!

Haterade: Glee

If you don't know what Glee is, you must be living under a rock. Glee is a show about high schoolers that join a glee club. Every week they perform different songs, all of which are past or present singles. Then, the songs are sold on all online retailers.

Now, I don't think the plot of the show is bad at all. In fact, I enjoy it. Here's my probably, the merchandising. No other show sells as much crap as this show. And yes, the songs they're selling on iTunes are pure crap. The original singers worked their assess off to make their song a hit and then the Glee kids swoop down and effortlessly record a version of the song and BAM, a hit. They sell different "volumes" of these hits in the stores. So let recap. School kids singing popular songs and releasing edited versions in compilation albums. Wasn't that the idea behind Kidz Bop?

Now Glee has a 3D concert coming to movie cinemas. I had no problem with the Hannah Montana or Jonas Brother concerts in cinemas. Little kids actually wanted to go to their concerts but couldn't because the tickets went faster than swine flu vaccines. But the Glee concert isn't really selling like these concerts, and if you want to see these kids perform on screen you can just flip to Fox.

I know all popular shows make merchandise, but Glee is out of control. To make matters worse, a lot of fans of the first season think the show "sold out" during the second season. You're shooting yourself in the shoot Glee, and I'll be glad when you crumble.

Lauryn Hill. Diva.

It's been over a decade since Lauryn Hill released new music. But that hasn't stopped her from making headlines. She's being slapped with a lawsuit because she was busy being a bitch to her crew on tour.

The woman has six kids, so it's easy to understand why she hasn't made music. But usually only those that have become legends in the music biz are allowed to throw temper tantrums backstage. While Lauryn is a pretty big name still, she is far from being a legend.

Of course, people always file claims against musicians. I'm sure if some guy that worked on her tour didn't get paid it was management's fault and not Lauryn's. But if the claim is that she's a bitch, I'd believe it.

Classic: Say My Name

It's hard to remember a day when Beyonce wasn't a household name, but ten years ago she was just another member of Destiny's Child. At the time, the group have a revolving door of members, but Beyonce was always in the front singing. In case anyone forgot why the group is famous, or why Beyonce was able to have a solo career, the song Say My Name should remind you why Destiny's Child is the best girl group in years. The song was made in 2000, but is just as good in 2011.

American Hero: Chris Brown

There are a lot of people in the world that just don't give a fuck. Most of these people lose jobs because of their attitude. Not Chris Brown. He does what he wants and cleans up the mess later. Most people have a love/hate relationship with Chris Breezy, but at the end of the day he puts out good music and hie keeps his fan base.

Now I'm not going to go into too much detail about his who Rihanna incident, but what type of message is she sending by putting he name on songs like Love the Way You Lie? That's not something a self-respecting abuse victim would do. While I don't agree with Chris Browns actions, he's trying to move on and admit mistakes while Rihanna acts like people have forgotten and don't care.

Either way, the backbone of Chris's career is his good music, and I can respect that. As long as he doesn't hurt anyone else, I can support him.

Blowin' Up: JLS

It's hard to believe that the band JLS came in second place on the X-Factor. In the UK they are huge celebs that just got their 5th #1 song. Not bad for a group that earned a silver medal. Now they're attempting to cross over to the US. Not a bad idea considering that their most recent song features the up-and-coming Dev. Also, the She Makes Me Wanna has been stuck in my head for about a week. As much as I wanted to avoid it, it caught me.

Not Going Loko

This is a classic example of how a couple people fucking up ruins everyone's fun. Four Loko was a popular alcoholic beverage among young adults. It combined an energy drink and the amount of alcohol found in 2 and a half beers. Not the safest idea, but people bought them. Then some kids drank too many. And died. Boo hoo. The sad truth is people drink themselves to death all the time. Just because we know what the kids were drinking doesn't mean we need to ban the drink from the shelves.

Now people have been inconvenienced. They have to but an energy drink AND vodka to have a makeshift Loko. All that banning these drinks from shelves does is give them free publicity. I know caffeine and booze aren't a good combination, but people will mix them until the day alcohol is banned. Why make life harder for people? Just re-release the classic Lokos.

And I know, they make Four Lokos without caffeine now. The caffeine makes no difference to me, but for some people the caffeine adds the kick that they want.

Blowin' Up (Still): Last Friday Night

Katy Perry is releasing a remix to her single Last Friday Night

This is clearly an attempt to push the song to #1. Katy has only reached #2 so far and if she wants to match MJ with the record for most #1s off of a single album, this song needs to reach the top. While I don't necessarily support Katy's last-ditch attempt to get to the top of the charts, I do hope the song gets to #1. Not for Katy, but for Missy. She hasn't really had a #1 song yet, and Work It holds the record for most weeks at #2. I think it would be a good achievement for her to get a #1.

Should Be a Single!

When it comes to Britney's album Femme Fatale, this is my favorite song. I saw that she posted a survey on Facebook encouraging her fans to vote for the next single. While those surveys almost never count, I can't believe Trip To Your Heart wasn't on the list. It's such a shame that she has this great song that she doesn't acknowledge.

Adele Goes Country

"Rumour has it" Adele is looking to make country music on her next album.

Question: WHY?

Adele isn't only a big singer in the US, but she's big in the UK as well. Country music doesn't sell there. One of the reason's Adele is so interested in country music is because it's unfamiliar and exciting to her. The problem is she built a fan base performing one style of music, and she did it really well. She got a lot of people to listen to music that was a little different from their ordinary taste and for that I give her all the kudos in the world. But she doesn't need to convert people into country fans. Even though she has a big album this year, she isn't established enough to jump to a different genre. Don't ruin your career Adele. Stick to what you know for now, because you do it well!

Barbies at Arbies

As the song Gucci Gucci by Kreayshawn continues to blow up, many people have noticed a stand-out line in the song.

"Bitch you ain't no Barbie. I see you work at Arby's."

I understand that the lines rhyme, but Kreayshawn needs to get her facts straight. Barbie does support the fast food industry.

While she doesn't work at Arby's, as the song suggests, Barbie had a quick stint at McDonald's. The fast food industry may not be the best paying industry to work in, but it is a fairly stable job to have. The Barbie pictured here is fighting to provide a bright future for little sister Kelly. As we all know, Barbie has been abandoned by her parents (and recently her husband). Rather than take off her clothes for money, she asks "would you like fries with that?" There is nothing wrong with a job in the fast food industry. At least it pays some bills, and its better than running around the streets of Oakland and screaming the n-word at people. Next time I see a Kreayshawn toy in a Happy Meal I'll take her seriously again, but until that day everyone knows that Barbie is the real household name. If she can pull of Mickey D's, she can pull off Arby's.

Classic: No Diggity

Remember when we weren't waiting for Dr. Dre to release an album? It seems like a long time ago, but back in the 90's Dre had enough time to make an appearance on this track and behold! It was a hit. This song hit #1 in the 90's and despite the fact that it's rarely played anymore, I still like the song. Not to mention the fact that the video is pretty cool.

I guess I could do without the random girl rapping in the song, but she's tolerable.

Now you'll find Blackstreet in flopsville, but before they got there they made an appearance on the Rugrat's Movie soundtrack. Oh the days!

UK Rapping In the US

The song Written In the Stars became a surprising smash for Tinie Tempah. Maybe it's because they used it on every episode of America's Best Dance Crew, but somehow it happened.

Here's Tempah's new single Till I'm Gone. I like this song a lot more than Written In the Stars, and it also features Wiz Khalifa. The song isn't that new, but it also hasn't really taken off yet. I encourage everyone to start playing this, because it looks like Tempah's career may be a short on in the good ol' U.S. of A.

Retirement Home Swag

Mick Jagger is a singer from the Rolling Stones. A popular band, but also an old one.

I understand that he is a living legend in the music world, but what does he know about swag? Swag is a relatively new term, and something Mick never thought about when he was in his prime. Is there a reason that Mick Jagger is the new face of swagger other than the fact that his last name rhymes with the word?

It all seems to start with the song Tik Tok, where Ke$ha claims that she kicks guys to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger. Well, Mick is a senior citizen now and probably not the most desirable man alive. Now we have the songs Swagger Jagger and Moves Like Jagger coming out. People need to find a new person to epitomize swag. While Tik Tok was a popular song, it was also Ke$ha's first big solo single. Typically record labels give new artists weaker songs because they want to save good material for their more popular artists. At the time Tik Tok was recorded, Ke$ha was unknown.

So I just don't get it. Why Mick Jagger?

Is Sabi Something?

I mentioned new artist Sabi in my post about the Cobra Starship song You Make Me Feel. Well here's her first solo single. I'm honestly not overwhelmed by it, but it's gotten a lot of positive feedback. Part of me can see this song becoming a big radio hit, but another part of me thinks it's going nowhere. So I guess you'll have to be the judge. Let me know!

Happy Birthday MTV

MTV turns 30 today! I remember when MTV was celebrating its 20th birthday, but my parents remember the first day.

MTV has been an American icon of "cool" since it first hit the air. Even though it isn't all about music like it was back in the day, it still caters to a younger audience. While I do wish there was more music on the network, I understand why they had to switch. Music videos are available on demand on sites like YouTube, so commercial-ridden videos just couldn't compete.

I'm glad MTV has been a part of my youth, and I will continue to watch.

The Return of Reggae

How often does a "raggae" artist get played on the radio? Even though he's mainstream, Sean Paul has a fairly unique style of music. While he didn't invent reggae, he's pretty much the only reggae artist that the current mainstream plays.

He new song Got 2 Luv U has just been release and is already making waves on the radio. He's been MIA for a while now, so I'm hoping he gets popular again. While I'm not his biggest fan, I do like this song.
