Haterade: Mary J. Blige

 

Mary J. Blige is one of those celebrities that I see everywhere, and I’m not really sure why. Sure, she’s had a could of hit songs, but so did Milli Vanilli. Nothing about her is unique, yet somehow she stays relevant. Whether it’s appearing at award shows or guest judging on Idol, she acts like she’s a musical legend. She’s not.

I’ll admit, I like the song Family Affair even though she creates nonsense words just to make the song flow (holleration, hateration). Her other big song is Be Without You, which prompts the listener to request the song on the radio. Shameless promotion? I think so. Now, she has a song with Nicki Minaj that’s going to be on her next album. The song’s OK, nothing special, nothing unique. A fairly typical Nicki verse, but it will create some buzz for her.

So Ms. Blige, I’m over you.
