Billboard #1- Somebody That I Used to Know

If you look at the Billboard Hot 100 right now, you'll see Gotye & Kimbra at #1 with their song Somebody That I Used to Know. It's surprising that this song has hit #1. Gotye has been making music for over a decade, and not he is finally getting recognition.

I guess that catchy xylophone melody and artsy music video was enough to propel this song up the charts. I like the song, but I am surprised that is is so successful.

Nicki Speed

Anyone that has listened to Nicki's new album- Roman Reloaded- may recognize this track. In my opinion Va Va Voom is the stand out track, and I see a potential hit on Nicki's hands. This song is only available on the deluxe version. Reminds me of Super Bass.

Breakfast Time

Kreayshawn may not be the best rapper in the biz right now, but her beat are always different. Kreay has another hot song on her hands with Breakfast. While the lyrics aren't that exceptional, the beat is enough to make me want to listen.

The song features 2 Chainz, who has some how become popular. No idea how he became famous over night, but I'm listening to this song for Kreayshawn, not him.

Smoke, Hot Ora

Here's one of my favorite songs right now. It's called How We Do (Party) by Rita Ora. The song samples Biggie's Party & Bullshit and has potential to be the song on the summer.

Rita is signed to Jay-Z's label Roc Nation. She's getting a lot of comparisons to her labelmate Rihanna. Check out the song and let me know if you see any comparisons.

Revamp

Hello all,

So I've abandoned this blog for a little bit, but I'd like to start posting again. To be honest, I think the blog will now mostly focus on songs that I am really into now. I would like to use this space to review music and suggest new stuff to you readers.

So please check back. I know I've been away for a while, but I will be posting again.

Comebacks: Two for One

Well, well, well. It looks like Ms. Ashanti is looking to make a comeback. She has a new song, new label, and is returning with none other than Busta Rhymes. Both have been MIA for a while (although Busta did have a cameo in Chris Brown's look at me now.) The song has an R&B feel to it, but Ashanti really makes it work. Hopefully this song takes off. I always have liked Ashanti's music.

Kreayshawn. Still Hot.

I don't know where this track came from, but I'm glad I found it. Here's another song from Ms. Kreayshawn, proving that she actually has something to offer us. This song is actually "hot" and I've been listening to it for the past couple of days. I must admit, Kreayshawn is underrated. I'm excited for her mixtape/album whenever it comes out.

Take Care Takes #1

Looks like Drake is 2 for 2. His second album sold 631,000 copies in its first week making it the third biggest debut of the year.

So much for a sophomore slump. Drake just keeps on getting bigger, selling almost 200K more than Thank Me Later. I guess it's not a big surprise that he did so well. He is the third member of the Young Money crew to have a #1 album this year and his lablemate Lil Wayne sold close a million in his first week.

Maybe now Drake can get a #1 single off of his album. That would be a change of pace.

The Princess Arrives

I now have renewed faith in Rihanna and Coldplay. The song Princess of China has leaked, and it is amazing. This is one of the best songs from either artists that I have heard in a while. There is no doubt in my mind that it will accumulate massive amounts of success. Even though the quality of the leak is shit, I still love it.

Suicide is Not Something to Love

UK rapper Tinie Tempah has snatched up the song Love Suicide, a song originally performed by Ester Dean. She is featured on his version of the track, but the original demo features none other than Chris Brown. I like this version of the song, but I think I like the version with Chris Breezy more. If this song is released as a single, I think it will grow on me, however I'd advise against releasing it because radio will censor the word suicide, thus ruining the song.
